Discover Tazikis Mediterranean Café

If you find yourself near 22103 Bulverde Rd #104, San Antonio, TX 78259, United States, there’s a place that captures the heart of Mediterranean comfort food while blending it with a relaxed Texas charm - Tazikis Mediterranean Café. Walking through its doors feels like stepping into a sunlit coastal town where olive oil flows freely, fresh herbs perfume the air, and every dish tells a story of tradition and freshness.

What struck me on my first visit was the simplicity and authenticity of the menu. Everything feels handcrafted - from the grilled chicken kebabs to the lemony rice and the tzatziki sauce that’s tangy, cool, and perfectly balanced. I tried the signature grilled lamb gyro, and it was tender, smoky, and wrapped in pillowy pita bread. For sides, the roasted potatoes and the Greek salad with feta crumbles added that fresh, crisp contrast that Mediterranean cuisine is known for. The café’s focus on using real ingredients - olive oil, herbs, lean proteins, and garden vegetables - reflects a philosophy of mindful eating without sacrificing flavor.

Beyond personal experience, it’s worth noting that Mediterranean diets have long been recognized for their health benefits. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine links this style of eating to improved heart health and longevity. That connection between taste and wellness is something Tazikis seems to understand deeply. Their dishes aren’t just meals; they’re balanced creations designed for nourishment and pleasure. Every bite feels light yet satisfying - the kind of food that makes you feel good hours later.

Talking with the staff gave insight into their process. They source locally whenever possible, focusing on freshness rather than volume. The owner shared that many recipes are inspired by traditional Greek family meals, adjusted slightly for American palates but never losing their Mediterranean soul. For instance, the hummus is made fresh each morning - you can taste the difference compared to prepackaged versions. The café also avoids heavy creams and processed additives, opting for olive oil and yogurt as natural flavor enhancers.

From an atmosphere standpoint, the space feels bright and open, with soft Mediterranean blues and clean wooden accents that create a casual yet inviting environment. It’s perfect for both a quick lunch or an evening dinner with friends. I saw families enjoying platters, professionals grabbing takeout, and couples sharing baklava and laughter over mint tea. The service was warm and personal - the kind of place where they remember your order after a few visits.

Customer reviews reflect this consistency. Locals often highlight the café’s ability to deliver restaurant-quality meals with the ease of a casual diner. Online feedback repeatedly praises the “fresh flavors,” “healthy options,” and “friendly staff.” Some even call it a “hidden gem” of the Bulverde Road area, a description I’d agree with wholeheartedly. The blend of authenticity and accessibility gives it an edge over many fast-casual competitors.

If you’re someone who values both taste and wellness, this café provides the best of both worlds. The Mediterranean cuisine here isn’t just a trend - it’s a celebration of centuries-old cooking traditions served in a way that feels relevant to modern life. Experts from the Mayo Clinic and the American Heart Association often emphasize how diets rich in olive oil, fish, grains, and vegetables can support long-term health, and dining at Tazikis makes it easy to enjoy those principles deliciously.

Whether you’re craving a quick wrap, a hearty plate of chicken souvlaki, or just a fresh Greek salad, the café delivers consistency and care. Even small touches like the lemon wedges on every plate and the clean, aromatic presentation show their attention to detail. It’s not just about eating - it’s about feeling connected to what you eat.

There are no gimmicks here, just honest food served with heart. From my own experience and countless local reviews, this is one of those places that quietly wins you over meal after meal. If you’re nearby, drop in and taste why so many San Antonians keep coming back - not just for the food, but for the feeling of home it brings.

  • My wife and I ate here for an early dinner tonight. This was our first visit to Taziki's and we had been looking forward to it for a long time ever since we saw that the restaurant was coming, as we love Mediterranean food. The wait was very much worth it for us. The staff was very friendly upon arrival. Granted, it was early in the dinner timeframe, but the service was quick and the restaurant was very clean, to include the restrooms. This was not a slapped-together strip mall restaurant. A lot of thought and care went into the design and decorations. The pictures (with plates below some of them explaining the scene) were a great touch, the painting very good, the overhead wood added to the vibe, and the furniture was a great, fresh look that went well with the decor. Really liked the feel. I had the grilled Harissa chicken plate with a Mediterranean salad and the basmati rice. My wife had the same, but with straight grilled chicken. All of it was absolutely delicious and really loved the salad in particular. Looking forward to trying more of the options in the future! Another reviewer mentioned that the portion sizes were small for what you paid. We did not feel that way at all, as there was plenty of really fresh food on the plate that should be more than enough for an adult. If you're eating more than that in one sitting, then it might be good to reassess how much you actually need... Regarding price, mentioned by a few reviewers, overall we did not find the cost exorbitant for the amount of and freshness of the food vs. other restaurants, particularly ones that rely on a lot of ready-to-cook pre-made ingredients. These days ALL restaurant prices are much higher than just a few years ago due to labor and cost of goods. That's just reality. Every bit of our meals looked and tasted fresh. That should be factored into a cost assessment. Either way, it was all good. The only negative we had was, ironically, the water from the soda machine. We had ordered only water and were given cups to use with the machine and its water tap. Not sure what is going on there, but the water tasted absolutely terrible, with a strong chemical/nasty flavor to it. Highly recommend management get the servicing company to look at that and figure out what is causing that. Otherwise, everything else was outstanding. Highly recommended.

  • This place was a hit! Everything was delicious! Definitely a cuisine that was missing in this area.

  • Nice setup. Menu reads well. No true gyro style protein. Had the lamb gyro. It was good. Smaller portions than what you’d expect for the price. Side of chips portion with the was actually laughable. Tomato/Cucumber salad was crudely cut and just looked thrown together. Will give some other chances as this place ramps up to try other menu items and see if portions/plating/quality/flavor gets better. Just know there are other Mediterranean style restaurants in the area with same price points, larger portions, solid plating and most importantly very flavorful.

  • Food was very good, but the portion sizes are more like sides. Bafflingly small for the price. Beautiful decor, friendly service, but will only go there if I’m not very hungry.

  • The sweetest group of employees ever :’) I came to pick up my order, so I wasn’t there long but as soon as I walked in and walked out they were so kind! The restaurant is also incredibly clean. Thank you!! I can’t wait to eat my dinner from here, and I plan on coming back again

  • Came in for the lamb burger and lamb gyro. Was not disappointed. Everything was very good. We left satisfied and not bloated or over stuffed. Nice setting. Calm and relaxing after a long day.
